“Taking books as a main inspiration source, the painting of Ana Luísa Ribeiro opens itself to a gather of tensions that are particularly productive. Texts to watch, images to read, both are her paintings and, strictly saying, none of the definitions exactly adjusts
to the nature of these canvases. There is obviously a fascination with the grafism of the letter and with the material composition of the page. Those are never simple forms to be red. At the same time, changing themselves in paintings, these pages grow until a dimension that transfigurates an initial relation with the book and the reading. This process becomes in the most recent paintings very obvious – duwed to the “using” of spots – where different protocols of observation crossover in a very inteligent way. …”
